Youths, yesterday, stormed the palace of Emir of Yamaltu-Deba in Gombe State demanding his dethronement for allegedly supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Jubreel Barde.
That was when Governor Muhammad Yahaya’s re-election campaign train was at the palace to further his bid on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).
The youths, who, despite security threat, forced their way into the palace, said unless the monarch is removed, mass votes for the governor from the area is threatened.
“The Emir is not supporting you. Remove him; we don’t want him,” they shouted on top of their voices.
According to them, the Emir’s involvement in politics is manifested in his support for only the APC’s senatorial candidate, former Governor Danjuma Goje; former House of Assembly Speaker, Inuwa Garuba; PDP’s House of Representatives candidate over the APC’s Umar Galadima, who is also chairman of the local council; and Barde.
Addressing his guests, the Emir urged the governor to ignore the “unruly” behaviour of the youths.
He, however, said he forgave them, urging the governor to do same.
“It is unfortunate the youths are behaving unruly. I have forgiven them. Please, governor, forgive them,” he said.
In his address, Governor Yahaya pledged improved attention for the local council, if re-elected next year.
