The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to the murder of Kehinde and Oluwabukunola Fatinoye who were assassinated in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Kehinde and Oluwabukunola were murdered early Sunday morning at their Government Reservation Area residence, Ibara, Abeokuta after returning from a crossover service. Their killers also set their corpses ablaze and abducted their son and housemaid.
Kehinde Fatinoye was a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria and his wife was a former employee of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, revealed that a suspect had been arrested, adding that an investigation was ongoing.
“The incident happened after 12 in the morning. It is true that a couple was killed and set ablaze at their residence in Abeokuta, shortly after they returned from Crossover Service.
“This is a clear case of assassination and we are not leaving any stone unturned to unravel those behind the killings. One person has been arrested by our operatives in connection to the incident. We will get to the root of the matter, as investigation has since begun,” Oyeyemi said.
The remains of Kehinde and Oluwabukunola Fatinoye were laid to rest on Monday.
The burial service, which was conducted by S.K. Oyewale, took place at Christ Anglican Church in the Iporo-Ake area of the town on Monday. It was attended by family members and a large number of sympathisers.
