The Governor of Ogun State, Mr Dapo Abiodun, has warned that the normal political temperature in the state courtesy of his administration over the last three and a half years should be maintained as the general election is fast approaching.
This is as he stressed that his administration would continue to remember the nation’s fallen heroes by giving support to them through the Nigerian Legion.
Abiodun said these during a special church service to mark the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peters, Ake, Abeokuta, on Sunday.
Abiodun commended the efforts and patriotism of the fallen heroes and their sacrifices to maintain a united and peaceful nation.
“I call on good-spirited individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the families left behind by the country’s fallen heroes,” he said.
The governor appealed to all Nigerians to participate in the forthcoming general elections.
He said partly, “We want to enjoin you that as responsible citizens, they say that a people deserve the leaders that they choose. You will not be able to choose your future leaders if you do not collect your PVCs, and you will not be able to be part of the Renewed Hope for Nigeria if you do not collect your cards.”
Akeredolu solicits support
Also, the Ondo State Governor has called for continuous support for the families of the military officers that died in the course of defending the country.
The governor solicited prayers for the peace and security of the country and the state in particular, especially as the forthcoming general elections draw nearer.
Akeredolu spoke on Sunday at a service commemorating the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Jesus House Cathedral, Region 22 Headquarters, Oke-Ijebu, Akure, the state capital.
Akeredolu said, “The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration is, therefore, to honour our departed war heroes and veterans and appreciate those still alive, particularly those that had suffered various deprivations in the cause of their duties and operations.
“I wish to reiterate that the annual celebration will not be complete without creating an avenue for us to thank God for how far he had led us as a nation and as a state. This solemn service is equally an opportunity to commit the dependants of the departed heroes and those amongst them that are still alive, into God’s hands.
“As much as our prayers are needed, there is the constant need for our generous support both in cash and kind for the widows and dependants of the fallen heroes, the veterans: those who are still alive and those physically challenged.
“One of the numerous ways to do this is to donate generously through the emblem appeal fund. Kindly permit me, therefore, to emphasise here that the proceeds from the sale of emblems are strictly for the Nigerian Legion for the welfare of the Ex-servicemen and their dependants.”
