The Cycology Cycling Club, Lagos, has said cycling is a form of cardiovascular exercise that keeps the heart, mind and body healthy.
Speaking while distributing some food bags to Lagos street sweepers in Lekki, Ajah, and Ikoyi axis and during the clubs cycling exercise, Captain, Cycology Cycling Club, Mrs Temitope George, advised Nigerians to join a cycling club, saying it was difficult to be sad while riding a bicycle.
George said, “Cycling is a great form of cardiovascular exercise keeping the heart, mind and body healthy.
“It is difficult to be unhappy while riding a bicycle or after a bicycle ride, as riding a bike produces endorphins that make you happy. There is safety in numbers; it’s safer to ride in a group so I advise Nigerians to join a cycling club. “We will be delighted if they join Cycology cycling club.”
She also called on the government to implement the Non – Motorised Transport Policy.
“Government through its Non – Motorised Transport Policy is committed to making roads safe for commuter cyclists and recreational cyclists. We will like the policy to take effect and will like to collaborate with them to create awareness with motorists that cyclists are also road users with rights to be on the road too,” she said.
George explained that the club gave the gifts to the road sweepers, as a way of appreciating them.
She said, “As is our custom, we give goodie bags to our road sweepers annually to show our appreciation for working tirelessly to keep our streets clean and safe for motorists especially cyclists.
“This year on the 14th of January we had our annual Road Sweepers Initiative and gave about 90 goodie bags comprising of beverages, cooking ingredients, food stuff and others to street sweepers on Bourdilion, Dolphin and Lekki environs. “
Media Secretary, Cycology Cycling Club, Mr Ayodimeji Olugbewesa advised that “On a minimum an individual should ride three times a week. The amount of hours to ride in a week all depends on your goal and schedule.”
