The Federal Government said it has successfully intervened in 64 internal road projects in various federal tertiary institutions and has already handed over 46.
Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, disclosed this in Minna, Niger State, at the weekend, while commissioning the 1.25km internal road to the management building of the Federal University of Technology, Gidan Kwanu Campus, Minna.
The minister explained that 18 roads had also been completed and would soon be handed over to various universities. He added that his ministry is currently attending to 19 more roads in similar institutions, making a total of 83.
Fashola noted that gap in infrastructure is steadily being bridged through a gradual process of repairs, renewal and construction of major highways. He said the initiative has now reached schools.
The minister, represented at the commissioning by Federal Controller of Works and Housing, Niger State, Moshood Adekunle Samotu, said much work is required in many sectors of national life, including education. According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has stepped up to lead the process of getting the job done.
He said during construction of the internal road in FUT Minna, 30 people were engaged, contributing to the job creation initiative of the current administration.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, expressed delight over the intervention, saying it would facilitate movement of people, especially students and host communities, from one point to another.
