Governor Babagana Zulum has announced the upgrade of Gwoza General Hospital to a specialist hospital.
Consequently, the facility will undergo expansion and get more equipment and consultants to meet specialised areas of medical needs.
Zulum also announced plans to establish a new College of Nursing Studies to be sited in Gwoza.
The governor made the revelations when he paid homage to the Emir of Gwoza, Mohammed Shehu Timta, on Sunday.
“We have appropriated the establishment of a College of Nursing in the 2023 budget and when voted for a second term, we will ensure the college is completed during the first six months of our next tenure in office,” Zulum said.
The college, he explained, will train Gwoza residents and neighbouring communities to become professionals in public health nursing, midwifery and other health-related courses, with a view to providing affordable and quality health services to the people.
“In addition to the college, we will upgrade the General Hospital to a specialist status, which will serve as a reference hospital for the College of Nursing,” Zulum said.
Meanwhile, Zulum, on Sunday, also led stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a campaign rally in the town.
He addressed a mammoth crowd of supporters who trooped to the premises of the Emir’s palace where the rally was held, and listed numerous projects executed by his administration in different parts of Gwoza.
The governor promised to establish a higher Islamic college and prioritise youth and women empowerment.
The higher Islamic college, an integration of Islamic and Western institutions, will enable students from Sangaya (otherwise known as Almajiri school), with a level of Quranic knowledge to qualify for admission for diplomas, which will make them eligible to enter universities and other tertiary institutions.
All the stakeholders, some of who are candidates for national and state Assembly elections in February and March, urged Gwoza people to vote for APC as they did in previous elections.
The campaign rally was attended by the chairman of APC in Borno State, Ali Bukar Dalori; Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume; Member representing Chibok, Damboa and Gwoza federal constituency, Ahmad Jaha; Member (Gwoza), State Assembly, Abdullahi Buba Abatcha; the Director General, national women centre, Asabe Vilita Bashir and other important political stakeholders.
