The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Campaign Council in Bauchi State, yesterday, condemned the killing of a political supporter in Akuyam District, Misau Local Council on Monday.
The Guardian had reported that one person was killed while another was injured when thugs attacked the campaign train of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the village. Police had said security operatives attached to the APC governorship candidate, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, opened fire.
But Director General of the PDP campaign council in Bauchi, Farouk Mustapha, during a press conference held at Government House, Bauchi, appealed to security agencies to investigate the matter and ensure justice is done for the deceased.
He denied alleged involvement of the PDP in the attack on the APC gubernatorial candidate during the campaign rally in Akuyam District, insisting the PDP in Bauchi State is law abiding and would never support any kind of attack on opponents.
He said: “We are the PDP campaign council. We are saddened by this ugly act and therefore, we are extending our condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, Akuyam District, and the entire people of Bauchi State.
“We are surprised that the security personnel attached to the APC gubernatorial candidate are intimidating citizens who expressed their views against the APC through use of ammunition.”
