The allegation was made, yesterday, in a statement read to newsmen in Calabar by some PDP leaders in Akpabuyo and Southern Senatorial District.
The PDP leaders that addressed newsmen were former governorship, Author Javis Archibong, the deputy governorship aspirant, Emana Duke, the state party campaign Chairman, Effiom Cobham, and the member representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/ Calabar South Federal Constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the leaders, Archibong said trouble started shortly after some APC leaders held a meeting on Sunday, February 5 at Ikot Oyom in Akpabuyo.
He stated: “We are moved to call this press conference to bring to the attention of the press and the public, the carnage and consistent attacks on members and supporters of PDP in Akpabuyo Council since February 5.
“The current barbaric attack on our members in the area began shortly after the candidate of the APC for the Calabar South/Akpabuyo and Bakassi Federal Constituency, Joseph Bassey, and a certain Cyril Anthony, without any provocation, led a team of miscreants to destroy billboards of PDP candidates within the private residence of Mr. Amanso Okon Etim, the chapter youth leader of the party at Atimbo. They went on to break into his house and destroyed his household properties.”
They also alleged that the state organising Secretary of the party, Francis Ekeng, and others were victims of the attack.
Archibong, who said they made desperate calls to the Police Quick Intervention Team but nothing was done, warned that they could not guarantee the continued patience of their supporters.
He called on security agents to take actions to secure lives and properties in the area and also arrest those involved in the attack.
When contacted on the allegation, Bassey denied being involved, saying he only went there for his rally and left thereafter.
