Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Christian Youths in Politics (CYP) have charged Christian youths to get involved in politics, make a difference and let the light of God shine forth.
They made the call during the CYP Connect International inauguration and political stakeholders’ debate as well as endorsement of all state coordinators of the organisation, in Ibadan.
Makinde, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Interfaith Affairs, Rev. Femi Ibikunle, urged Christian youths not to see politics as dirty but join to make a difference.
He said: “If you don’t join politics, you cannot be part of decision-making. When you are in politics, you must be the light. The Bible says you are the light of the world. When others are doing those things that are not good, don’t join them. Distinguish yourself in politics with the light of God you are carrying.”
Chairman of Oyo CAN, Joshua Akinyemiju, who was represented by Dr. Olumide Olanrewaju, also charged Christian youths to embrace politics.
He said: “Politics is to fulfil the purpose of God for mankind. Continue with this momentum; as you persist, you shall get results.”
The founder of CYP, Princess Kolawole, urged Christian youths to be part of the political system, saying: “After Christ, it is our government. We cannot stay behind and be complaining of what is going on.”
On her part, the Chairperson, Women Wing of Oyo CAN, Dr. Patricia Amaechi-Obi, urged Christian youths not to shy away from politics.
She said: “How involved are you in politics? Speak out and let your voices be heard. There is nothing like politics is dirty. Go and join politics and make a difference as a child of God. You should be resilient and determined to achieve your goals.”
