A spokesman for the PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PDP-PCC), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, who stated this at a news conference in Asaba, yesterday, said PDP was in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to recirculate old N200 notes till April 10, this year to ease the suffering of the masses.
Aniagwu, who is the Delta State Commissioner for Information, in company with the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, stated: “We must agree with the President that we appreciate what Nigerians are going through on account of the scarcity of the new naira notes.
“We believe it is important the CBN takes steps to further ameliorate what the masses are going through.”
And what the President did today is a pointer to the fact that government is desirous of solving the challenges being experienced by very credible Nigerians, as they approach banks for their money.
“The decision of the President that CBN should release old N200 notes back into the economy to reduce sufferings of people is a welcome development.”
He added: “We also agree that it is important to take steps to curb corruption, vote-buying and insecurity, which has been major problems. So, this policy, to a large extent, have addressed those.
“We do hope that the sufferings Nigerians are going through will be mitigated by this directive to the CBN to release N200 notes up till April 10.”
He appealed for calm and patience to allow the CBN implement the directive to ameliorate their suffering. He condemned destruction of banks and other facilities, warning that it is those behind the destruction that will eventually suffer the consequences.
“Our brothers and sisters work in these banks and earn money from them. If you burn down the banks, you are also causing pains for these our brothers, who are going to lose their jobs because the bank where they work is des
“We appreciate the pains and hope that the CBN would take immediate steps, as directed by the President, to reduce the suffering of our people at the ATMs.”
Aniagwu said those, who might have stockpiled money for election would have done so in N500 and N1000 denominations, saying such politicians are now sponsoring violence not because they fight for the people as they claim, but for their selfish interests.
He said: “Since this policy came in, we have it from intelligence agencies that kidnapping has stopped, because if you kidnap anybody and ask the person to get huge sums of money for ransom, where is the person going to get it from?”
He commended Buhari for reiterating his commitment to leaving a legacy of free, fair and credible elections.
