Former Governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah Jang, has accused Governor Simon Lalong of not completing any single project during his eight-year tenure, which will end on May 29, 2023.
Jonah, who represented Plateau North in the Senate between 2015 and 2019, asserted that Plateau got it wrong in 2015 when it handed over power, after his eight years in office as governor, by not support his candidate then.
Speaking on Radio Jay FM in Jos, yesterday, Jang said godfatherism should not be encouraged, adding that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoned governorship to Plateau Central and chose Caleb Mutfwang because he had been tested and found competent.
The ex-governor said Lalong could not win his senatorial election, adding that he had never rigged elections but the All Progressives Congress (APC) was hell-bent on rigging.
Replying Jang on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dan Manjang, said the former governor ended up showing his true character of bitterness and hatred for Lalong as a person.
He asked: “Must all candidates be winners? What is the big deal in losing an election once in a while? Has not Jang lost an election? Does he think we have forgotten how he lost several attempts to be governor until Chief Olusegun Obasanjo imposed him on Plateau, even when he failed to win primaries in 2007? What about his 16 is greater than 19 saga that brought shame to the people of Plateau in his futile attempt to be Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF)?”
Manjang advised Jang to keep his mouth shut and retire from politics completely, as his age mates had done.
Countering Manjang’s statement, Media Consultant to Jang, Clinton Garuba, said he had decided to reply Manjang, who many people regarded as a dead wood in information management on the Plateau.
Garuba stated: “I am guessing that all the vituperations poured on Jang show how much he venerates his principal. He forgot quickly, though, that in whatever mould he puts the former governor or whatever yardstick he uses to measure him, the man towers far above those he seeks to please, let alone himself.”
