An actor-cum-politician, Desmond Elliot, has sympathised with his colleague and political rival, Olumide Oworu, over the recent attack on his campaign team in the Surulere area of Lagos.
Oworu, who is seeking to unseat Elliot from the Surulere Constituency 1 seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, had taken to social media to announce that his team was attacked on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
He added that the attack would not shake his resolve to contest the seat.
He wrote on Twitter, “I am not deterred by the incident. Instead, I am more committed to seeing this through. We will pass through the wards in constituency 1…”
Meanwhile, a statement posted on Elliot’s Facebook page read in part, “The attention of the Desmond Elliot Media Office has been drawn to the senseless attack on the supporters of the Labour Party in Surulere by suspected thugs and overzealous political jobbers masquerading as party supporters.
“Elliot had reiterated at several fora in the build-up to the general election that he will never be a party to any move that seeks to undermine the peaceful coexistence that we currently enjoy in Lagos State.”
Though a picture showing Oworu bleeding from his head made the rounds on the Internet, Saturday Beats can confirm that the picture was originally posted by the actor on his page in October, 2022. It was apparently taken on a movie set.
Some of Oworu’s colleagues, including Tomiwa Tegbe and Akah Nnani, have continued to support his candidature. His fans have also been cheering him on.
