Social Democratic Party (SPD) governorship candidate in Delta State, Chief Kenneth Gbagi, yesterday, filed a 79-page petition against the Governor-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sheriff Oborevwori, at the election tribunal sitting in Asaba.
Recall that the candidate of the APC and Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo Agege, had also filed a petition to challenge Oborevwori of the PDP, who was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking to newsmen shortly after filing the petition, Gbagi said his petition is aimed at removing “the rascals and others, who have nothing to do with the election.”
The governorship candidate, who vowed to retrieve his mandate legitimately, added that his petition has to do with qualifications of candidates and non-compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act.
Gbagi, a former Minister of Education, who was accompanied by his counsel, Magaji Mato Ibrahim (SAN), claimed that malpractices, such as vote buying, distribution of food and wrappers to voters, were obvious during the governorship election, saying they were crimes against the Electoral Act. He also claimed the number of votes allocated to candidates was not realistic with the election, believing that justice will prevail.
“If you declare results that have nothing to do with BVAS, those results wouldn’t count. Many people thought it was business as usual, but we didn’t go into this election for joke. Don’t forget I founded PDP in 1999 in Delta State, so I had taken my time and by the grace of God, justice will prevail.”
