Kebbi State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Agatha Okolo, has urged corps members serving in the state to emulate their predecessors in areas of community development, healthcare, education, agriculture and environmental sanitation.
During a Unity Walk, yesterday, in Birnin Kebbi, to commemorate the golden jubilee of NYSC, she also commended the graduates for their participation in the general elections. She urged them to ensure their names are in the annals as good ambassadors of the scheme.
“Gentleman, be disciplined in your conduct, embrace dignity of labour, adhere strictly to instructions and avoid all forms of negative youthful exuberance,” she said.
She noted that a former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), established NYSC on May 22, 1973, to rehabilitate, reconstruct and reconcile the country, following the civil war,” she said.
Okolo described NYSC as one of the most reputable institutions in West Africa, mobilising and equipping young graduates for national development and equipping them with necessary skills for self-reliance.

ALSO, in Yobe State, the scheme held the Walk in Damaturu, the state capital. The event formed part of weeklong activities at the NYSC Orientation Camp and select local councils in the state.
Unveiling other activities in Damaturu, State Coordinator, Hafsat Yerima, disclosed: “This Unity Walk is to mark the giant strides of the scheme in the last five decades across the country.”
She said NYSC was celebrating 50 years of selfless service to humanity and dedication to nation building, as well as developmental strides recorded in the various sectors of the economy. She thanked individuals, corporate bodies, stakeholders and governments for their support to the scheme.
The coordinator also charged corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme while executing projects in their respective communities. Some excited Damaturu residents joined corps members in the Walk.
