Eight persons were said to have died in a crash that occurred at Shadarki Village, along the Darazo-Bauchi Road in the Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Wednesday.
Six other people sustained various degrees of injuries in the crash that occurred about 12km away from the Darazo Base of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The state Sector Commander of the FRSC, Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent late Wednesday.
Abdullahi said the crash involved a commercial and a private vehicle.
He said, “The crash occurred on Wednesday around 1.32pm and we were immediately informed about it. Our men rushed to the scene of the incident within 10 minutes for a rescue operation.
“The crash involved 14 people – five male adults, six female adults, two male children and one female child.
“Immediately our rescue team arrived at the scene of the incident, they evacuated the victims to the General Hospital, Darazo, for medical treatment and confirmation.
“While there, a medical doctor confirmed eight of them dead. The corpses were deposited at the morgue while the injured were being treated.
“Those confirmed dead are two male adults, three female adults, two male children and one female child. Three male adults and three female adults sustained bruises, head injury and fracture.”
Abdullahi said the two vehicles involved in the crash were a white private Toyota pickup van with number plate BPP 041 while the second one was a Volkswagen Golf car, also white in colour with number plate DX 65 EKY.
“The crash was caused by wrongful overtaking,” he added.
