Former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has said he is ready to sit with Governor Hope Uzodimma to proffer solution to security challenges in the state.
Okorocha, who spoke with journalists at his Spilbat residence in Owerri, also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the menace.
The former governor expressed worry over the insecurity in the state, stressing that government must encourage the people to join hands to tackle the situation.
He urged all political leaders in the state to eschew sentiments and unite for solution to the challenge. He said: “Killings in Imo State are under reported and this is most unfortunate. There is no day a traditional ruler, policeman or security operative will not be shot dead or beheaded in Imo.
“Also, I don’t think that the Federal Government knows that villages and communities in Ohaji-Egbema, Okigwe, Ideato North, Onuimo, Orsu and several other local councils in the state have been deserted because of this ugly situation.
“I, therefore, call on the Federal Government to restore peace and security of lives and property in Imo. What happened last Friday to my convoy is unfortunate.”
“Whatever step that can be taken to restore peace in Imo must be taken. Something must be done urgently so that everyone can live peacefully in the state again.
“I intend to write Uzodimma a letter for the first time on the urgent need to call a meeting of former Imo governors to share experience with him, which may help to stop this insecurity overnight. Ordinarily I wouldn’t want to meet Ihedioha or Uzodimma but for the sake of finding a lasting solution to this insecurity, I’m willing to.”
