Pupils, staff members of Estate Primary school, Ikeja, have extolled Lagos Imperial Lions club, District 402B2, for donating six toilets facility to improve sanitation in the school.
The beneficiaries said memories of recent visit of the club would remain indelible in their minds, as they were elated to witness the commissioning of the facilities.
During the commissioning, President of the club, Olumide Adeyemi, recalled that the school with over 600 pupils lacked such a facility.
He said: “We came to the school and found out that there is a need to build toilets for them and we felt it is time for us to support them because governments are focusing on more critical infrastructure. So, in our little way, we try to intervene in situations like this.”
He said the project started in April and cost about N5 million.
The District Governor of the club, Aare Lekan Owolabi, said intervention in the educational sector was one of the critical objectives of the club.
Lamenting on the lack of maintenance culture and insecurity of the school, Owolabi appealed to the school management to ensure that all the infrastructure provided are properly managed.
“I charge you to keep maintaining the toilets, keep securing the infrastructure that has been provided for this school, so that it will encourage Lion Club members and other spirited Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to do more,” he added.
Elated by the gesture, head teacher of the school, Oyeniran Modupe Opeyemi, thanked the club for providing such a facility and pledged to maintain it.
