ood Abiola, Olalekan, yesterday, submitted that not until the dream of his father for a better Nigeria is fulfilled, the family would not be pleased.
Speaking at a special prayer for the relatives and June 12 victims organised by the Coalition for a Better Nigeria in Lagos, Olalekan pointed out that the nation’s democracy is still a work in progress.
He, however, expressed joy that President Bola Tinubu emerged as Nigerian leader, recalling that he was one of his father’s close associates that fought for June 12.
His words: “Democracy is a work in progress, until the economy of Nigeria improves. Until issues around employment, electricity generation, security and other things like that have improved, we are a work in progress. We are happy that democracy has prevailed. We are happy that we have had 30 years of democracy in Nigeria. We are happy that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, one of my father’s close associates back then that fought for June 12 that time is now the President. We are happy with many things, but it’s still a work in progress.”
On his part, Chairman, Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Tajudeen Olusi, urged Tinubu to consider the fears and doubts of his critics, particularly the ethnic and religious groups, by not making his appointments to be seen as lopsided.
Represented by Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, Olusi advised Nigerians to be patient with the President, saying ministerial appointments were still coming.
“You don’t judge the taste of a woman’s stew until you get to the table. You don’t judge it in the kitchen. She’s still cooking. So, when she finishes, she will serve you at the table. It’s at the table, you take the first test, and judge it,” he said. The coalition’ National Coordinator, Awa Bamiji, said Tinubu presidency is a reincarnation of Abiola on the seat of power.
“Thirty years ago, June 12, the fairest and freest election in Nigeria, was annulled. Thirty years later, we have renewed hope, the reincarnation of Hope 93,” he stated.
