As the world celebrated last Christmas, Tunde Soyemi, was excited about the day. The day was going on well as planned, but the unimaginable happened midway, a vehicle hit him on the way to the market to buy adornment materials.
Narrating his experience, Soyemi said: “I had an accident on Christmas Day, December 25, 2022. I returned from church around noon. After lunch, a friend and I went out on a motorcycle to get some decoration materials. We were riding around Ijanikin suburb, on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, when a vehicle hit us. The policemen, who came to the accident scene took me to a hospital. Through my phone, my father was reached. I was transferred from that hospital to the Federal Medical Centre, where I was later referred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba.”
He said that he was admitted on December 26, 2022, and on December 27, 2022, he was taken to the theatre. After going through the abdominal surgery, it was discovered that his intestines burst, which affected some of his internal organs as liver, lungs, as well as his right knee, which was fractured.
“After the surgery, I lost consciousness, I could not breathe and was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment. I was later sent to the ward to continue my recuperation on March 17, 2023. The second surgery was approved and I was taken to the theatre for the knee surgery, right tibia fracture surgery, which was done successfully.
“Moreover, I have been in the hospital for about six months now and millions of naira spent. I was discharged on April 17, after the knee surgery, but due to my inability to pay the outstanding bill, I was held up in the hospital. I am, therefore, appealing to all well-meaning, public-spirited individuals or groups to please come to my aid, by assisting me to pay the outstanding bill of N2,197,640.”
His father, Tunde Soyemi, said that he had could no longer bear the burden of paying the bill as he has spent all he had.
He said: “Since December last year, I have been spending and my business has crumbled. I was affected psychologically, and even having issues providing for the family. I am appealing to the public for an assistance to give me a helping hand for my son to come out of the hospital.”
