Newly-Wed, Mrs. Rukkayat Musa, and her two sisters-in-law, kidnapped from their home at Emir’s Road, Ilorin, Kwara State, have regained freedom from their abductors. The bride and two sisters of her husband, identified as Hafsat and Aliyah, were reportedly set free by their captors in the early hours of yesterday after payment of N7 million ransom.
Gunmen, last Wednesday night, invaded the home of the new couple at Oniyangi area on Emir’s road, Ilorin, and kidnapped the bride of two months. While her husband managed to escape from their apartment, the gunmen took Rukkayat and his two sisters away.
The abductors later got in contact with the family and demanded N50 million ransom before the release of the three ladies, a condition they said must be met by weekend.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said he was neither aware of the kidnap incident nor their release.
Okasanmi told reporters, yesterday: “I am not aware of the incident. Nobody told me of the kidnap of that newly-wed lady.”
But while confirming the release of the ladies, a brother to the bride, who did not want his name in print, said the trio was released on Sunday. He said: “They arrived Ilorin and called us around 2.00a.m. today (Sunday). The family paid a ransom of N7 million to the kidnappers before they were set free. They demanded N50 million, but we could not raise such amount. We started negotiation with them and told them that we are a poor family. We cried and begged them before they accepted the N7 million that we raised within the family.
“The three ladies, who were taken to the hospital immediately for treatment, are still on admission.” The relative, who insisted that the incident was reported to the police, said the police did not play any role in the rescue of the victims. He appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and security operatives to save Kwarans from insecurity.
