Yet-to-be-identified criminals on Saturday reportedly gang-raped and killed a lady, Wassa Tuwa, in the Lankaviri community of Yorro Local Government Area of Taraba State.
A relative of the victim, Ayuba Solomon, told our correspondent on Tuesday that 18-year-old Tuwa was gang-raped and killed behind a mountain near Jalingo, the state capital.
Solomon explained that the victim left their family house in Jalingo for the village in Lankaviri on Saturday evening, using a bush path to make her journey shorter.
He said, “She left our family house in Jalingo for the village in Lankaviri on Saturday. It was on Sunday morning that a little boy who was hawking firewood discovered her corpse by the roadside and ran back to inform his parents.
“When the boy’s parents and other residents got to the scene, they discovered it was the lifeless body of my younger sister.
“We invited security personnel operating in the area to see and advise us on what to do. The security men came and conveyed the corpse to the mortuary for medical investigation.
“After autopsy at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, it was confirmed that the victim was gang-raped before she was killed.
“We want to appeal to security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation so that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.”
Efforts made to get the reaction of the police to the incident failed as the state Police Public Relations Officer, Usman Abdullahi, did not take the calls made to his line as of the time of filing this report.
