The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Muhammad Gumel, on Wednesday, declared three suspected thugs wanted.
He promised a reward of N100,000 for anyone who provides valuable information leading to their arrest within seven days.
Gumel disclosed this while speaking at the opening of a friendly football match between the police command and some repentant youths at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
He explained that he declared them wanted following their refusal to surrender themselves to the police for a dialogue.
He said 99 thugs willingly showed up, while the command invited only 30 of the thugs for the football match.
He listed the wanted persons as Barakata of Dorayi Quarters, Hantar Daba, and Chile Mai Doki of Tudun Fulani Quarters.
The police boss said, “We have made efforts to make Kano free of crimes using dialogue and peaceful approaches to encourage youths to shun evil, which include, drug abuse, phone snatching, thuggery, and other crimes associated with them.
“We invited 30 of the thugs to the command but to our utmost surprise, 99 of them showed up and accepted to shun crime, as well as surrendered their weapons.
“There are three notorious ones that we have made all efforts to invite but have refused to show up, in person. They include Barakata of Dorayi Quarters, Hantar Daba, and Chile Mai Doki of Tudun Fulani.
“I hereby declare them wanted. In the spirit of community policing, whosoever captures any of them will be rewarded N100,000. This money will come from my pocket.
“If the communities smoke out these wanted thugs in the spirit of community policing, they will take home N300,000 from me.”
The Executive Director of the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices, Zainab Ahmad, said the football match was meant to promote peaceful coexistence in the state by embracing the delinquent youths and to show them that they were still welcome back to their communities.
