Crisis looms in Sobaloju family in the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of Oyo State, as some family members staged a peaceful protest, on Sunday, in Ibadan, over an alleged plan to sell off their heritage to a finance house.
The women among the protesters threatened to strip naked to resist the alleged plan to render them homeless
Addressing journalists after the protest, the Secretary of Sobaloju Descendants, Basiru Adelabu, said the family had no plan to sell the property, and, therefore, warned intending buyers.
Adelabu said, “If our sons and daughters ask for our family house in the future, where do we show them? The graveyard of our forebears is here. Now that some people who have no direct link with the family are planning to sell the compound, what will happen to their graves?
“Sobaloju’s family is known all over the world. It is a reputable family with a deep historical record. We will not fold our arms and allow people that have no direct link with the family to trade off our heritage.”
