A 58-year-old man, Samuel Balogun, on Friday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State, where he was arraigned for allegedly punching a man.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the police charged the defendant, whose address was not provided, with assault and conspiracy.
The prosecutor, Inspector E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on Sunday around 1:30pm.
The offence was committed at 8, Yakubu Adepoju Avenue, Iyesi, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplices conspired to assault the complainant, Hassan Aderemi, after a fight broke out between them.
He said the offences contravened sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr O. O. Okiki, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Okiki said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned till September 4 for further hearing.
