ABUJA – The Arewa Youth Assembly has called on public office holders nationwide to emulate the exemplary conduct of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmud Yaqoob, especially in light of the recent judgments on the 2023 general election.
In a statement, Aliyu Muhammad, the Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Youth Assembly, commended the INEC Chairman for overseeing what he described as an unprecedented credible, free, and fair election in Nigeria.
“The absence of challenges at the apex court speaks volumes about the quality of the electoral process under Professor Yaqoob’s chairmanship,” Muhammad said.
Muhammad further highlighted that the success of the elections was a testament to the chairman’s dedication and professional approach.
“He has shown unwavering resilience and sincerity in upholding the tenets of our democracy,” Muhammad added in his statement.
The Arewa Youth Assembly has recognized Professor Yaqoob’s service as exemplary, calling him “the Most Outstanding Pan-Northern Nigerian of the Decade” as well as “Sardauna Matasan Arewa,” a title reflecting significant respect within the Northern community.
In a follow-up conversation, Muhammad expressed the Assembly’s pride in Professor Yaqoob’s achievements.
“He has set a bar for what democratic maturity looks like in Nigeria. His kinds are rare, and we need more leaders like him across the entire country,” he said.
The statement concluded with an appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider retaining Professor Yaqoob for another term to continue the progress made under his leadership.
“After all, the reward of hard work is more work,” Muhammad stated, underscoring the Assembly’s belief in the value of continuity in office for effective public service.
The Arewa Youth Assembly’s call emphasizes the need for consistent democratic practices and the importance of strong leadership in public office to maintain the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
