A House of Representatives member representing Yagba East, West, and Mopamoro Federal Constituencies, Hon. Leke Abejide, has told Nigerians to exercise patience and give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at least two years to manifest the economic policies introduced by the administration.
Abejide, who doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Customs and Excise, made this known in Kano on Saturday when he was received in a grand civic reception organized by the Yoruba Community in Kano to celebrate his victory as a second-timer in the green carpet chamber.
The lawmaker, who expressed optimism in President Tinubu’s administration’s ability to transform the nation’s economy, urged Nigerians to exercise patience and bear with the president.
In his words, “I have confidence that the Tinubu administration will make the economy better for the country. I have said it before: when a woman is in labour, there is a lot of pain pending when she delivers.
“If you are looking at the policies they are making, you will know that we should give at least two years, I know it is a long time for people who are in hardship, but in less than two years you will see the impact, the economy is going to be transformed. I have that belief.
“Infact, the person you are talking about is an expert in the financial sector and has a lot of experience. He knows what he is doing and what the result will be. My advise to the people is that we remain patient and the result will be good for all of us,” he said.
The lawmaker said the need to counter the possible encroachment of insecurity into the country was one of the reasons why the borders still remain closed.
The Asiwaju of Yoruba Kano, however, promised the 4.5 million Yoruba’s residing in Kano that, being a part of the community, he would complete the building of the palace of Oba Yoruba Kano before the end of his tenure.
Earlier, Oba Yoruba of Kano, Alhaji Alimi Murtala Otisese, commended the lawmaker for his immense contributions to humanity in Kano through the empowerment programmes, saying it was one of the reasons why they conferred him with the title of Asiwaju of Yoruba Kano.
On his part, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Special Adviser on Community Affairs, Alhaji Abdullatif Abdussalam, said the Kano government will continue to run an all-inclusive government and deliver the dividend of democracy.
In his welcome address, Chairman of the organizing committee, Sheyi Olorunishola, said the lawmaker was honoured for his numerous interventions towards bettering the lives and well-being of people both home and abroad.
