CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, APC, Niger East has denied betraying the Northern Senators in response to allegations raised by the former Senate Deputy leader and immediate past Chairman, Northern Senators Forum, NSF, Senator Abdul Ningi, PDP, Bauchi Central.
In a statement he personally signed on Friday, Senator Musa noted that there was no way he would have betrayed anyone, especially members of the Northern Senators Forum, where he is an active member and a ranking Senator.
The Senator who noted that what he did on Tuesday in his presentation during the discourse was to expose the gray areas in order for the lawmakers to mend their actions.
Musa said, “I would like to address the recent accusations levelled against me regarding my alleged betrayal of the North. As a senator, my commitment to the Northern Senators Forum and the development of the North, Nigeria, and the integrity of the Senate as an institution has always been unwavering.
“In my capacity as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance and an active member of the Northern Senators Forum, I have consistently supported and advocated for the interests of the North. However, it is imperative for me, as a responsible representative, to be kept informed and included in matters that concern our region and our nation.
“Regrettably, there have been instances where I have felt excluded from crucial discussions, particularly concerning Appropriations. Despite my repeated attempts to address this issue with the Forum’s Secretary and Spokesman, transparency and inclusivity have not been forthcoming.
“My recent statement was not intended as a betrayal but rather as a plea for transparency and fair representation. How can I be expected to support or contribute affirmatively to decisions when I am not privy to the necessary information?
“I remain steadfast in my dedication to serving my Senatorial District, the North, Nigeria, and the Senate with integrity and accountability. It is my sincere hope that we can work together to ensure the interests of all stakeholders are upheld.”
During the debate, Senator Musa who expressed disappointment over the actions of Ningi and Sumaila Kawu, said, “Any discovery that I have not seen, to me it is not a discovery. I am not one person that does anything on eye service.
“Distinguished Senator Ningi and Kawu, i am not a second class Northerner. If there is anything that happens in the Northern Senators Forum, they did not inform me.
“If anybody says he has seen anything, provide the evidence. But when I saw the post from Senator Sumaila Kawu, I was disappointed.
“We will deal with the budget, but we have to also deal with our ethical standards in this Senate.”
