Last Sunday would go down as an unforgettable day in Nollywood when actress and producer, Eniola Ajao pulled all the stops for the premiere of her movie, titled “Ajakaju: Beast of Two World”.
No movie premiere in Nollywood has ever been so outlandishly scripted in bohemian style spruced with mesmerizing gory splendour, perhaps, since “The Omo Ghetto: The Saga”. It would have perfectly qualified as a Halloween party, little wonder it was themed “Royal Beast.”
The movie is centered around a desperate king, (Odunlade Adekola) who faced banishment due to his wife’s inability to produce a son, driving him to take a new wife from another world who promised him an heir. Still, her arrival brought unforeseen chaos to the kingdom, forcing the king to confront his fears and fight to secure his dynasty’s future.
The premiere, in the same vein, ended in a sort of chaos as a popular transgender/crossdresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky won N1 million naira prize as the best dressed female at the premiere. It was a judgement delivered by Anikulapo producer, Femi Adebayo and what ensued sent social media into a meltdown.
Backlash
A video of Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham losing her cool after she was told who won the best-dressed female at the premiere immediately went viral The actress found it hard to believe that Bobrisky was crowned the best-dressed female at the premiere, considering that the crossdresser is a man. After finding out, Toyin Abraham asked who picked Bob as the best-dressed female and went ahead to call the person crazy.
Also incensed with the choice of Bobrisky is another actress, Dayo Amusa who also did a video to express her displeasure and disgust. In the viral video, Dayo Amusa slammed everybody who was involved in crowning crossdresser Bobrisky as the best-dressed female who attended the premiere. Dayo Amusa averred that it was disrespectful to all the women who were at the event to crown a crossdresser as the best-dressed female at the event.
A blogger known as Elizabeth Obanla also dragged the announcer of the prize, Femi Adebayo, requesting an apology from the actor for the insult on all women. She said, “You have disrespected womanhood”.
Potpourri best-dressed
Of course, it was Eniola Ajao’s show and she practically rubbed it in the faces of all present as her two costumes captured the true essence of the theme of the night. Eerily looking like a beast, the details of her style and royalty were as dazzling as they were captivating.
Dayo Amusa walked the talk, looking like a beautiful vampire draped in surreal style. Happiness Adebayo known as Mummy Glee also came to the party, looking like a flying nymph about to take to flight.
Bose Alao, Wumi Toriola and Papaya Ex streamed the night perfectly in harmony with the theme “Royal Beast” with attitude and candour
