Authorities of the Isa mustapha polytechnic, the Nasarawa state owned polytechnic has announced a ban on the sale of handout to students of the institutions.
This is even as it insisted that education in the institution was not for sell and should never be commodified, warning further that access to learning materials should be equitable to all.
This development came as the institution accords more attention to providing an environment where knowledge is shared freely for all students to harness merit, dedication and education excellence.
Acting Rector of the institution, Dr. Nurudeen Mu’azu Maifata, announced the ban during the matriculation of newly admitted students for 2023/2024 academic session in Lafia, Thursday.
According to Dr. Maifata, no students are to be left behind on account of inability to purchase handouts or other learning materials, urging staff and students to comply with the policy direction of the institution to give opportunities for all to learn equitably.
He disclosed that the management of the polytechnic is working tirelessly to achieve the vision of Governor Abdullahi Sule, who is the Visitor to the Polytechnic, to transform the school in line with best practices through quality manpower, facilities and structures to attain to the needs of the society.
He called on students to steer clear from acts of indiscipline on campus such as indecent dressing, cultism, prostitution, sexual misconduct and examination malpractice, adding that the polytechnic under his watch will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone found breaking the law.
He urged the students to be good ambassadors of the institution by exhibiting hard work, honesty, discipline, dedication to learning and to cooperate with the polytechnic management to ensure acts of immorality and destabilisation of the peace, safety and security of the institution are curbed.
The acting rector congratulated the matriculating students on the feat attained, tasking them to fill their academic pursuits with discovery, growth and meaningful connections to strive and excel .
In a good message, the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Isa Mustapha Agwai l Polytechnic Lafia, Dr. Obadiah Ilalu represented by Martina Pojwan lauded the efforts of the management in moving the institution forward.
Recalled that 4, 918 students matriculated for the current academic year while 2,362 students matriculated for Higher National Diploma (HND) and 1,336
students were for National Diploma (ND) courses.
