NASFAT Faults Electricity Tariff Hike

The Chief Missioner, Nasrul-lahi-li Fathi Society of Nigeria, Imam Abdulazeez Onike, has raised concerns over the recent increase in electricity tariffs and called for a review of the hike.

Onike expressed disappointment over the decision of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to approve an increase in the electricity tariff, describing it as a burden on Nigerians who were already struggling with high costs of living.

The cleric spoke on Wednesday, during the Eid-l-fitr prayer session at the association central mosque at  Asese, Ogun State.

He said, “Just last week, we woke up to hear the news of the increase in electricity tariff. We have been calling on the government to review the sudden increase in the price of electricity, because how can you increase it by about 200 per cent or more? That is alarming and it’s killing. Nigerians are already struggling with so many things,  we urge the government to be lenient in its decision making.”

The Vice President, NASFAT, Amar Olawuyi, urged Muslims to continue the good deeds of Ramadan, including charity and support for the vulnerable, and to have faith in Nigeria despite its challenges.

Olawuyi said, “The President has encouraged all religious leaders, traditional leaders to pray for the country instead of cursing the country. This will go a long way. Let us change our orientation; let’s believe in the project called Nigeria, Nigeria has come to stay and it is going to survive.”
