Afrobeats star, Davido has expressed his support to Cubana Chief Priest, the popular socialite after he was granted bail by a Lagos court amid allegations of naira abuse.
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday filed a three-count charge against the social media celebrity over alleged naira abuse.
Cubana, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, stands accused of spraying and tampering with the naira at a social event, contravening the Central Bank Act of 2007.
Subsequently, he was brought before the Federal High Court in Lagos for arraignment.
During the court proceedings, Cubana pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.
Presiding over the case, Judge Kehinde Ogundare granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10 million, requiring two credible sureties to stand as guarantors, with the condition that the bail terms must be met within seven days.
In the event of failure to meet these conditions, Cubana would face remand in a correctional facility, pending further legal processes.
After the case, Cubana took to his Instagram account on Wednesday to share a picture of himself with well-wishers and friends sending him their support.
In a show of solidarity, Davido commented on Cubana’s post, asserting his unwavering support and dismissing any chance of not seeing the socialite for six months.
He wrote in Pidgin English, “I no go see you for six months ke? Never.”
Cubana’s legal ordeal comes shortly after another social media personality, Bobrisky, received a six-month prison sentence for similar currency-related offenses.
Last Friday, Judge Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos pronounced Bobrisky’s sentence, stipulating that it would not be subject to a fine.
The EFCC has recently intensified investigations into various celebrities suspected of involvement in currency abuse, signaling a broader crackdown on financial misconduct within the entertainment industry.
