Ahead of the scheduled July 6 local government elections and congresses, formers of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, Gabriel Suswam and Senator Abba Moro yesterday tasked supporters of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remain one indivisible entity so as to coast to victory during the polls and conduct of party congresses.
The trio also cautioned party faithful against rumour-mongering which brings about acrimony in the party.
They bared their minds while addressing an expanded caucus meeting of the PDP at its secretariat in Makurdi.
Chief Ortom warned against shortchanging members and pursuing personal interest over collective interest and emphasised the propensity for unity within the party, as according to him the gesture can strengthen the party more.
The immediate past governor maintained that the emergence of party leaders in the forthcoming PDP state congresses should be a democratic decision made for peace and to be sustained even after the election.
Chief Ortom stated that the party leadership has initiated internal conflict resolution mechanisms to address disputes within the party.
Also speaking, former Governor, Gabriel Suswam, decried the lingering rumour bedeviling the party that he and Chief Ortom are at loggerhead. He said the unfounded rumours were orchestrated by selfish interests which the party’s leadership had met and addressed.
“Let me caution those using my aspiration for the National Chairmanship of the party to cause conflict to stop. I will never welcome those who are bent on creating friction among the PDP leaders in the state”.
Senator Suswam implored supporters of the party not to fight amongst themselves but to focus on winning elections both in the state and at the national levels.
In his remark, the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Patrick Abba Moro, said despite being in opposition, unity remained crucial for the development of the party in the state.
Senator Moro warned against sentiments that would create friction among supporters ahead of the forthcoming congresses in the state.
He implored the members to choose the best candidates who could lead effectively and deliver victory for the party during the elections.
