The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed up three hundred and fifty five pharmacies, and illegal medicine shops in Jigawa State under it’s Pharmaceutical Premises, Inspection, Structure and Enforcement Regulations aimed to reposition the operations of pharmaceutical services across the country.
This is coming as a result of the visit of the PCN enforcement team to jigawa State in continuation of PCN’s current move to streamline the drug distribution system in the country.
This is to ensure that all medicines remain safe, effective, and of good quality.
“The PCN has created platforms In it’s state offices across the country to allow for proper registration and documentation of Pharmaceutical business in line with PCN laid down regulations”
The affected premises sealed include two hundred and sixty illegal pharmacies, eighty seven patent medicine shops.
“They were sealed as a result of sales of medicines without documentation, operating without registration with pharmacy council of Nigeria.
Other offences link up with the closure of these pharmacies shops include opacrisser ating without registration with pharmacy council of Nigeria, poor storage facilities, sticking of ethical products without prompt supervision of a pharmacist among other violations of PCN guidelines.
Recall that during the visit of Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Enforcement Team to jigawa state to 20 LGA’S , the PCN was able to identify several unregistered patent medicines were operated without pharmacist to supervise the sales of ethical medicines and other medicines with narrow margin of safety thus exposing consumers to harmful consequences of the wrong use of these medicines.
