The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), on Tuesday commenced the restoration of the national grid.
Sources privy to the development has said that the recovery started at 3:27 pm and that TCN transmitted 30 megawatts of power to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company network.
It was also learnt that the Shiroro hydro power plant resumed operations at 8:00 am and generated 3 megawatts of power.
It was further gathered that it sustained supply to the national grid till 3:00 PM and contributed to the partial restoration of power supply in some places.
It could be recalled that the strike called upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress had thrown Nigeria into darkness as the power supply to the national grid dropped to zero MW following the shut down of power plants and TCN installations.
However, NLC and TUC relaxed the strike for five days in honour of the agreement labour reached with the federal government.
TCN has announced that the rehabilitation and re-stringing of the four vandalized towers along the Jos-Gombe 330kV transmission line supplying bulk power to substations in the Northeast had been completed.
It stated that the re-stringing of conductors was completed and contractors have reconnected the jumper on tower 282, making it ready for the transmission of bulk electricity.
TCN announced this on its X.
It would be recalled that the vandalized towers were discovered on April 22, 2024.
The governors of the North East states had demanded the restoration of power in their states.
Though TCN had promised to complete the repairs and restore supply by May 27, 2024, the collapse of the fourth tower during the re-stringing process, according to it, delayed the completion.
TCN said the four towers have since been completed, and that the line is now ready for bulk power transmission.
It appreciates the patience and support of the governors and people in the North Eastern part of the nation during the period of the tower reconstruction work.
