An entire building located at Otukpo, the headquarters of the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue state gutted fire on Thursday, thereby destroying goods and property worth millions of naira.
The tragic incident occured on the early hours of Thursday, June 6, on Onyangede Street in Otukpo.
New Telegraph gathered that the demolished building, which was a residential area, also housed barber and tailor shops.
An eyewitness who was privy to the development said Iliya Hassan disclosed that the fire outbreak was caused by a power surge.
“The moment there was a power supply in the early hours of today a spark from a wire that was disconnected in the building wall led to the fire outbreak.
“All our efforts to put off the light were not successful but we succeeded in retrieving a few items from some shops.
“Fortunately, no lives were lost in the fire incident,” the eyewitness said.
