The National Leader of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has dissociated himself from some statements attributed to him on social media, regarding the new National Anthem.
Obi in a statement issued by the spokesman of Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Dr Yunusa Tanko said that though he criticises wasteful spending by the government, he has not commented on the National Anthem.
According to the statement, the news story claimed that the sum of N814 billion was spent on the National Anthem by the Federal Government, adding that it has attracted criticism from Nigerians including Peter Obi.
“POMR wishes to state clearly that while Peter Obi has been a critic of wasteful spending of public funds, he has not said a word directly or indirectly on the new national anthem,” the statement added.
It noted that most of Obi’s statements were based on verifiable facts, stating that he never embarked on frivolous remarks.
POMR said it has been made aware of “some hirelings whose assignment is to push out funny statements and attribute them to Obi, to finally discredit his laudable opinions on national issues.
“We therefore wish to alert the general public especially media houses to be wary and watch out for such induced materials.”
