A Magistrates’ Court in Zuba, Abuja, has convicted a 30-year-old mechanic, named, Ibrahim Adamu, to two months imprisonment for cheating his client in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Mr Adamu had pleaded guilty to a court charge of breach of trust and cheating and prayed to the court to temper justice with mercy.
The prosecutor, Chinedu Ogada, however, informed the court that the complainant, Hauwa Yakubu of Zuba Abuja, reported the incident to the Zuba Police Station on May 27.
Mr Ogada stated that the complainant provided the convict with her car for repairs.
The inmate collected engine components, which the complainant purchased, marketed, and used the proceeds for personal gain.
The prosecutor claimed that throughout the police inquiry, the defendant gave a confessional statement.
He claimed the offence violated sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The magistrate, Abdulazeez Mohammed, granted the guilty the option of paying a N1 million fine.
Mr Mohammed also advised the offender to maintain good behaviour and avoid a life of crime after completing his jail sentence.
