A political pressure group, the Igbo Union, has called on President Bola Tinubu to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB,
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, held in Department of State Services, DSS custody for more than three years to the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
President of Igbo Union, Prince Elias Odoemena, who made the call in a statement on Tuesday said the release of Kanu by President Tinubu would position him (Tinubu) as a President that listens to the cry of people and one who obeys court order.
According to him, “It’s sad, disheartening that Nnamdi Kanu will be in detention even when the court of competent jurisdiction has granted him bail long time ago.
“The only offence committed by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was his continued cry against the marginalization of his tribe, the Igbo race by the past Nigerian governments.
“It will be wrong to beat a child and ask him not to cry. It’s unfortunate that instead of doing the needful and reducing the rate of hatred on the Igbos, the the immediate past government thought that suppressing Nnamdi Kanu’s cry will make him stop the cry.
“The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu will portray the Nigerian government before the international community as a country that has little or no regard for Court Orders and does not respect human right and this is not giving Nigerians good name a country abroad.”
Prince Odoemena thanked an elder statesman Pa Edwin Clark and many others that have added their voices for the release of Nnamdi Kalu.
Odoemena also told President Tinubu that Nnamdi Kanu is a son to the president who may be useful to his administration in future.
