The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), TASUED Branch, Ogun State, Comrade Kehinde Akeem Adebayo, has carpeted the Federal Government for not paying the four months withheld salaries of the Non-Teaching staff of the Universities.
Adebayo stated this during a peaceful protest at the Ijagun Campus of the university yesterday.
Comrade Adebayo explained that the demonstration was organised to express the grievances of the non-teaching staff against the Federal Government’s insensitivity.
He criticised the government for allegedly using divide-and-rule tactics among university staff unions.
Comrade Kehinde Adebayo questioned the justification and criteria used by the Federal Government in paying members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) their eight months’ salaries while failing to compensate their non-teaching staff counterparts.
He emphasised that the nationwide protest was intended to raise public awareness and appeal to the Federal Government to reconsider its position and pay the four months’ withheld salaries of the non-teaching staff.
He warned the government against taking the non-teaching staff unions for granted, saying, “We may be forced to embark on a strike if the government fails to do the right thing at the right time.”
