The meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu in furtherance of his consultations with stakeholders on the minimum wage debate has commenced at Presidential Villa
The labour organisations were led by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero and the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifp.
The labour leaders were led to the President’s office by the Chief of Staff (CoS) Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
Recall that the 37 man Tripartite Committee on the Minimum Wage failed to broker an agreement between the federal government and the Organised Labour, which led to the presentation of different figures by the government and labour on the minimum wage.
While the Federal Government offered to pay N62,000 as minimum wage, the organized labour had insisted that government should pay N250,000
Labour said payment of anything below their demand would not reflect the prevailing economic reality in the country.
Nigerians are eagerly waiting for the outcome of this meeting to know where the pendulum swings as there have been threats of strike should there be no compromise from the government.
