The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Dr Asue Ighodalo has promised the people of Udo and Ora Wards in Ovia South West Local Government Area that their government if elected, will complete all ongoing projects started by Governor Godwin Obaseki while providing security and support for farmers in the local government.
Ighodalo, who spoke at the PDP Ward-to-Ward campaigns in Udo, Ovia South West Local Government Area declined the mass poverty and hunger in Nigeria, urging the people not to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) whom he said was responsible for the hunger in the land.
He assured the people of completing the Iguobazuwa Road project among others.
“We want to assure you, that every project that was started by Governor Godwin Obaseki will be completed. You see what the government has done at the Edo State College of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi. This Iguobazuwa Road, which is ongoing will be completed.
“I want to thank our women for their wisdom. Today, if you give a woman #100,000 to go to the market, whatever she buys today with the money, the same money will not buy half of it tomorrow, yet our women are still managing the family and still putting food on our tables.
“But I want to tell you that should not vote for those people who made a bag of rice that was sold for #35,000 to be #90,000 and a bag of beans that was sold for 40,000 to be #95,000. Today you cannot buy tomatoes again, we now use cucumber and carrots, please don’t vote for them.
“They are in Abuja, they should not bring their problems to Edo State. We have agreed that if those in the centre don’t want to progress, we will progress here in Edo State.”
Speaking, the deputy governorship candidate, Bar Osarodion Ogie thanked the crowd for welcoming them to Udo and said he was not new to most of the PDP members.
“We want to thank you for welcoming us on a Saturday like this with so many social engagements. Many of you know us, we have not closed our doors against any of you and that is the beginning of our story.
“We know how to look after our people. When you people complained about Udo road, we promised that we would do something, have we not done it?
“You said, you wanted a rice mill and today, we have started doing something about the rice mill. So, we will tell you that we will work for you, please believe us,” he concluded.
The highlight of the occasion was the receiving of some defectors from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC)and the Labour Party led by Roland Ohenhen and Ovie Ighofose, with Ohenhen leading the defectors from the LP, and Ighofose leading those from the APC.
