The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Niger State axis has distanced itself from the proposed nationwide protest, saying “We can not work with faceless groups calling for protest against the government”.
Speaking on behalf of the Association at a press briefing in Minna, the Chairman, NANS, Joint Campus Council, Niger State Axis, Comrade Salihu Yusuf said “We will not give in to the antics of hoodlums that are lurking to loot and vandalize people’s property”.
Yusuf said “We the students in Niger state will not join in the proposed nationwide protest because we do not know those organising it and we can not work with faceless groups.
In Niger state, our Governor is performing developmental activities are there for all to see; over N500 million bursary allowance has already been paid to our students, buses donated to ease transportation and then 1,000 children of the poor going to India on scholarship.”
While calling on students not to be hoodwinked into the protest, Yusuf said “We are using this medium to inform great Nigerian students to shun this ungodly call to protest which may eventually lead to destabilisation and cause a breach of peace and order”.
