Sokoto State Government has assured it readiness to implement the new National minimum wage approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, July 29.
“On our part I want to assure you that the Sokoto State Government is ready to implement the new National minimum wage as approved by Mr President”.
Hitherto, to further assist the people, his administration has completed all arrangements for the massive distribution of grains to all the nooks and crannies of the State for the benefit of all and sundry.
According to him, this kind of gesture would be periodically provided in order to ensure that our people did not lack food to eat.
Governor Aliyu gave this assurance during on Tuesday at a town hall on the proposed national protest.
“Undoubtedly our Country is facing quite a number of challenges that include Economic down turn, Inflation, cost of living as well as Insecurity among other challenges”.
The governor noted that it is indeed obvious that the hardship being faced by ordinary Nigerians has worsened there by making lives unbearable to many citizens.
He added that the prices of some essential items have now gone up far above the purchasing power of an average Nigerian, a situation that has further aggravated the problems being faced in the country today.
“While the citizens felt uncomfortable with the situation at hand, and have resolved to organize protest across the country as a means of voicing out their plights for authorities to know, they should also understand the complex nature of our societies as well consider the National Security.
Nigerians should as much as possible avoid any act that could jeopardize the peaceful coexistence of this country.
We must remember that Nigeria is the only country we can call ours, therefore it’s peaceful coexistence should not be compromised under any circumstances.
The proposed protest would only cause set back on the effort being made by the present administration to better the living condition of people of the state, as the burden of the destruction likely to occur on the states. Infrastructure will be solely on Government.
“The Sokoto State government, the NLC, TUC, Students Union and 50 trade unions in the state are all against the proposed protest and would not participate in therefore any person or group of persons coming out to protest is doing that at his own risk, as security agencies will be put at alert to checkmate any breach of peace in the state”.
Aliyu therefore thank the NLC and all other trade unions that refused to participate in the proposed protest for their patriotism and peace-loving nature.
Sokoto people are peace loving and law-abiding citizens who never partake in any issue that could lead to breach of law and order in the state.
As a government, we would continue to ensure the protection of lives and property of the law-abiding citizens.
On the issue of hardship being experienced in the country, this administration has since been doing its best to provide succor to its citizens through various interventions.
In fact, since the removal of the oil subsidy, we have given out several palliatives and assistance to the vulnerable groups and less privileged members in the state.
Aliyu recalled that, few months ago, we gave out hundreds of bags of grains such as Maize, Rice and Millet to people across the 23 Local Government areas of the state.
This is as a result of our believe that we must come to the aid of our people whenever they are in need.
