Akure, the Ondo State capital, and other major towns in the state were peaceful as there was no protest over the economic hardship being faced by the people in the country.
Markets, shops, and supermarkets were under lock and key for the fear of attack by hoodlums who might hide under the guise of protest to loot the business premises.
Also, banks and government offices were shut while commercial transporters withdrew their services over the fear of attack by hoodlums.
Although secondary schools have ended the session, tertiary institutions in the state gave their students mid mid-semester break so at to prevent the students from being co-opted for the protest.
Different groups in the state including Campaign for Democracy and Conference Of Nigeria Civil Rights Activists, (CNCRA) in Ondo State have dissociated themselves from the planned protest.
Similarly, Concerned Revolutionary Youth who were the organisers of the planned hunger protest pulled out. They addressed a press conference to withdraw from the planned protest.
Briefing newsmen in Akure of the decision to withdraw from the planned protest, the secretary of the group, Ogundipe Seyi Olaniyi, said the decision followed the interventions of prominent indigenes of the state.
Ogundipe said the group was neither induced financially nor intimidated, but resolved to pull out of the planned protest due to the interventions and security reports that some groups were preparing to hijack the protest to settle ethnic scores.
According to him, the planned protest has already achieved some of its aims as President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has taken some proactive measures to address many of the issues raised by the organizers.
Ogundipe Olaniyi, said the group, Concerned Revolutionary Youths, has written to its counterparts across the country of its intent to pull out of the protest and continue to dialogue with the government on issues of concern to Nigerians.
He added that the group in Ondo State has also written to security agents and concerned authorities signifying its intent not to participate in the planned nationwide protest.
