A violent clash between rival groups known as Kalare boys in the Bolari area of Gombe State resulted in the deaths of at least three persons yesterday.
The incident has raised concerns about rising tensions in the area and the need for increased security measures. According to Muhammad Bello, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the incident was sparked by internal disputes within the Kalare boys and was unrelated to the protest.
Bello clarified that the violence was a result of the usual thing with the Kalare people in the state and emphasised that it was not related to the protest.
The NSCDC has deployed 600 officers across the state to maintain security and safeguard government assets. Bello emphasised the importance of cooperation among security agencies to protect lives and property.
“We must work in synergy with other security agencies. You have to collaborate with other security agencies to protect lives and property,” he stated.
Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, confirmed reports of the incident, stating that investiga- tions are ongoing and several individuals are assisting authorities in identifying those involved.
Usman noted that the clash was between two opposing groups vying for supremacy, resulting in injuries and fatalities. The incident has raised concerns about the potential for further violence in the area.
The NSCDC has assured residents that it is ever ready to handle any situation, but emphasised that it will not use force unless necessary.
