The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has advised its former governorship candidate in Kogi State, Hon. Leke Abejide to face the lawmaking duty for which he was elected and desist from interfering in party management and administration.
Hon. Abejide who is a member of the House of Representatives, had on Monday, disagreed with the party leadership over the planned bad governance protest.
But ADC National Chairman Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu, in a statement, advised Hon. Abejide to be contented with his present position as Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Exercise.
Nwosu noted that the Rep’s press conference on Monday was meant to disparage the party because of its position on national issues as an opposition party.
He stated that the ADC had raised issues regarding Abejide during his governorship contest, and said his ‘inordinate ambition” and attitude had created disunity within the party in Kogi State.
ADC has been hit with waves of defections recently, but the National Chairman stated that as a disciplined organisation with a transformational leadership philosophy, the party is taking appropriate steps to maintain its integrity in Kogi State.
“We have set up a committee led by Dr. Bamidele Ganiyu Ajadi, the Deputy National Chairman (Politics) of our great party to look into the shenanigans going on to enable us to apply the arm of the law justly,” he disclosed.
The committee, according to him, which comprised seven members, has Hon. Nkem Ukandu as Secretary.
He announced that following the judgement of the Supreme Court on the financial autonomy of the local government, the party’s leadership has resolved to participate in all local council elections in the country.
To this end, he disclosed that another committee, the Local Councils Elections Committee, has been set up “to schedule, strategise and supervise all LGA elections in all the states of the country.”
The committee has the National Secretary, Alhaji Said Abdullahi, as Chairman and High Chief Anayo Arinze as Secretary.
The 11-member committee, according to him, has six state chairmen.
“We appeal to all stakeholders at the sub-national level especially the state governors to ensure that all the democratic processes are conducted in an atmosphere of impartiality,” he said.
Nwosu stated that one Shola Adebola Samuel, aka GADAFI, who he said, has been parading himself as a member of the board of trustees (BoT) of “ADC and using that designation to call meetings in Kogi is not a registered member of ADC talk-less being a BoT member.”
