The sprinter tagged “Star Girl” showcased an impressive performance in heat 6, clocking a time of 22.24secs, securing first place in her heat.
She outpaced Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who finished second with a time of 22.28secs and Gina Bass-Bittaye of The Gambia, who came in third at 22.84secs.
It was another glorious outing yesterday in the men’s 400m race with Samuel Ogazi becoming the first Nigerian male quarter-miler to qualify for the 400m semifinals at the Olympics in 24 years.
Ogazi ran a new Personal Best of 44.50secs to book an automatic spot into the semifinals of men’s 400m, closing in very fast to finish second and earning his place in the semis. USA’s Quincy Hall won the race in 44.28secs.
Also yesterday evening, another Nigerian in the men’s 400m, Chidi Okezie, was so close to earning an automatic spot into the semifinals, he, however, finished fourth in heat 1 of the event, clocking a time of 45.52s, he returned for the Repechage for a chance to make the semifinals today.
