The Benue Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken disciplinary action against former Governor Samuel Ortom and three other officials over allegations of anti-party activities.
This decision was made during a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) in Makurdi.
In a statement released by Cornelius Hwande, the PDP’s Media Consultant, it was confirmed that Samuel Ortom, along with Isaac Mffor (the state Deputy Chairman) and Bemgba Iortyom (the state Publicity Secretary), has been suspended.
The suspension of Ortom reportedly stems from his endorsement of the Labour Party candidate in the upcoming 2023 elections and his statement advocating for Benue PDP members to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election.
Furthermore, Azua Ashongo, the party’s Vice Chairman of Zone A, was also suspended for acts of gross insubordination and indiscipline. Mffor and Iortyom faced suspension due to their alleged involvement in incidents related to the misappropriation of Congress materials intended for the ward congresses in Buruku and Ushongo local government areas.
This move highlights internal tensions within the Benue PDP and underscores the party’s efforts to enforce discipline and adherence to party guidelines among its members.
