Following violent incidents that erupted during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed on Monday, imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Katagum Local Government Area of the state.
New Telegraph reports that Monday’s protest saw demonstrators setting parts of the Local Government Secretariat on fire, destroying vehicles, and vandalizing the home of former Deputy Governor, Baba Tela, as well as looting properties in the process.
Reacting to the development in a statement issued by the secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Kashim, Governor Mohammed said, “Due to the deteriorating situation in Azare and its environment, leading to the destruction of public property, stealing, and victimisation, His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, has approved the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in the Katagum Local Government Area to contain the situation.”
The chaos which spread across several streets in Azare town within Katagum LGA, caused significant damage to government properties.
Also, the governor has directed all security agencies to address the unrest and apprehend perpetrators of violence in the state while urging law-abiding citizens to cooperate with security forces during this period as efforts are in place to restore calmness to the state.
