The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro on Friday ordered a 10-day ban on access to microblogging site, X (formerly known as Twitter) in the country.
This was as the President accused the Chairman of the social media platform, Elon Musk of using the platform to incite hatred following the country’s recent presidential election.
Maduro claimed that his political opponents have been using X to stir unrest and destabilize the nation after the contested election results.
Speaking in a public address, President Maduro said, “Elon Musk is the owner of X and has violated all the rules of the social network itself,” as he justified the decision to restrict access to the platform.
It was reported that posts on X had stopped loading on two private telecommunications services, as well as the state-owned provider Movilnet.
The state agency responsible for telecommunications in Venezuela will “remove the social network X from circulation in Venezuela for 10 days,” according to Maduro.
This action follows his previous accusations that Musk, through X, had carried out an “attack” against his reelection.
